She has an amazing feel for language and dialect and I am amazed this is her debut novel. I recommend this novel to all readers. I found myself rethinking the whole thing after knowing that a lot of the events had actually occurred. Thanks ...It’s nice to hear from another librarian. Thanks for your comments. Yes, I too am concerned about the climate of violence that produces a personality like Manson. Having a great love of Native American culture, I certainly cringe when I read about our mistreatment of them, and I certainly am not going to try to justify some of the atrocious violence in our nation’s past. However, violence is an inevitable part of the human condition and I don’t think it behooves us to single out a particular place or time as the worst examples of it. It has been in our history and nature for as long as history has been recorded. I’m not sure it is ever going to end, but that doesn’t mean that we should accept it without a fight (pardon the pun) and I believe we should do all we can individually to actively counteract its deleterious effect in society at large.KY Warrior Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14855747476470094093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717624894008470018.post-80107565446950071732014-01-03T23:06:55.412-08:002014-01-03T23:06:55.412-08:00America is a violent sandwich. One side is the local history of destroying Native Americans and African slaves and turning Mexicans foreigners in their own territory after usurping a vast territory, not to mention our treatment of Japanese, Chinese and Punjabi Americans. The other side of the sandwich is our violent foreign policy for at least one hundred+ years, unlike any other country I can think of. This will keep sculpting Charles Mansons again and again.
From one librarian to another/
Moazzam Sheikhmoazzam sheikhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04667465930413071388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717624894008470018.post-13309155269691290702014-01-03T23:03:56.310-08:002014-01-03T23:03:56.310-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Moazzam Sheikhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18007273183962131633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717624894008470018.post-88265485856334451792013-12-14T02:30:54.783-08:002013-12-14T02:30:54.783-08:00I love Jodi Picoult's writing. This was a bet between a friend and myself. What I was thinking was that I wanted to win the $500 wager (which I obviously did). This was completed in the mid-90's when I was in my 20's and working 2 jobs so the cash came in very handy. Recently, I sold the item (after all these years) to Ripley's Believe It Or Not's museum in Orlando, FL, for which they paid a very nice amount. Check it out if you're ever in the Orlando area. Thanks so much for your blog post and, again, sorry for the late response. I hope it answered youe question. - HeppCatHeppCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07933228303644597278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717624894008470018.post-55788429863526582852013-12-02T08:43:26.750-08:002013-12-02T08:43:26.750-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.HeppCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07933228303644597278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717624894008470018.post-23537581507255246582013-10-28T03:27:23.748-07:002013-10-28T03:27:23.748-07:00sounds like a truly moving and fascinating account...sounds like a truly moving and fascinating account of the chimps' lives.
